Sergio Ajani of Innovaway shares his perspective.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When large language models (LLMs) are deployed on corporate data, responsibility for security is shared. Sergio Ajani frames the issue with remarkable clarity: the frantic adoption of Artificial Intelligence\u2014similar to what happened with cloud computing during the pandemic\u2014brings with it systemic vulnerabilities. In the era of LLMs, absolute certainty is a luxury, but intellectual honesty requires acknowledging this in order to provide companies with innovation that is truly secure and governable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The dataset as an attack surface<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The effectiveness of an LLM depends on the data used during the training phase. As Sergio Ajani points out, \u2018the dataset itself is an extremely critical attack surface.\u2019 From this perspective, Innovaway\n identifies three main vulnerabilities:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Data poisoning:<\/strong>\u00a0The deliberate insertion of manipulated samples to alter the model, creating vulnerabilities comparable to zero-day threats (a risk that is significantly amplified in the open-source ecosystem).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Privacy leakage:<\/strong>\u00a0The extraction of sensitive information through chats, often caused by poor governance during the dataset upload phase.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supply chain:<\/strong>\u00a0The use of external data (e.g. web scraping) acquired without integrity checks, which risks introducing malicious code or inaccurate information. However, the need to analyze data for security purposes can become a valuable opportunity to assess information quality and improve overall data governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Three levels of responsibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The issue of responsibility (<em>shared responsibility<\/em>) is crucial but still not clearly defined in the AI landscape. Sergio Ajani identifies three levels of intervention:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Model provider:<\/strong>\u00a0It must ensure that the underlying algorithm cannot be easily induced into actions that could jeopardize security.<\/li>\n<li><strong>System Integrator:<\/strong>\u00a0Organizations such as Innovaway have a precise technical and implementation responsibility in designing the pipeline, encryption, security model configuration, and management of computing environments. Enterprise AI is not a \u2018click-and-buy\u2019 solution.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Client:<\/strong>\u00a0It acts as the\u00a0<em>data controller<\/em>, responsible for classifying its own data and for the overall governance of the chain, which can never be fully delegated to AI tools.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>RAG, access controls, and the problem of complacency<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For enterprise use, the most concrete model is a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture fine-tuned on corporate data. This approach inevitably expands the attack surface, making data protection\u2014an essential evolution of Data Loss Prevention, for instance to safeguard industrial secrets and \u2018Made in Italy\u2019\u2014and strict access control absolutely critical. Language models also suffer from the well-known \u2018compliance problem\u2019: if a malicious actor queries the system by impersonating a senior role, the model may comply. In addition, RAG architectures introduce a temporal governance challenge, and direct prompt access exposes the risk of exfiltrating confidential documents. The pragmatic solution adopted internally by Innovaway\n is a purpose-driven AI, more filtered: less spectacular, but more secure, with verified RAG pipelines and closed prompts that prevent arbitrary file uploads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A look at the future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To avoid slowing down innovation, Innovaway\n is looking ahead. In collaboration with several Italian universities, it is exploring\u00a0<strong>neuro-symbolic architectures<\/strong>, a paradigm that combines neural networks with deterministic reasoning. The goal is to create a \u2018supervisory agent\u2019 capable of verifying prompt and output compliance in a logical, not only statistical, way. This is not about replacing people, but about using augmented intelligence for supervision, enabling more reliable outcomes than the artificial intelligence we know today.\nThis is one of the building blocks of the company\u2019s 2026\u20132028 industrial plan, a growth path based on organic development and targeted acquisitions, strengthened by technological integration stemming from partnerships with market-leading vendors such as HCLSoftware. The crucial shift today, however, remains cultural: a broad\u00a0<em>awareness<\/em>\u00a0effort is needed\u2014starting from top management\u2014to fully understand the real potential and risks of
