Yet, once the initial excitement fades, its adoption is often driven more by the fear of falling behind than by the actual ability to generate value. In many corporate environments, failing to invest in AI is seen as a reputational risk. The result is an implementation process that starts with the technology rather than the problem, skipping the crucial question: where, exactly, can AI create real value for the business?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Sergio Ajani, Service &amp; Solution Design Director at Innovaway, points out, a conscious implementation requires a profound shift in perspective: moving from 'how much and which AI to integrate' to 'do we really need AI?'. A principle that seems simple on the surface, yet is remarkably difficult to put into practice, as it forces organizations to think in terms of processes before technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The side effects of AI \"everywhere\"<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applying Artificial Intelligence indiscriminately is never painless; it creates systemic ripple effects that often remain invisible until the bill comes due.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Unnecessary complexity and reduced effectiveness.<\/strong>A Generative AI model applied to a process for which it is not suited only adds complexity, slows down execution, and demands constant human oversight. According to a recent MIT study, 95% of GenAI pilot projects have failed to impact the P&amp;L\u2014not because of technological limitations, but due to a flawed approach to adoption. Using a Large Language Model (LLM) to sort a hundred thousand data points in a database introduces latency and margins of error for an operation that a traditional sorting algorithm would solve deterministically in fractions of a second. The same applies to AI Agents: deploying them in linear, predictable workflows\u2014where traditional Robotic Process Automation (RPA) excels\u2014has led Gartner to predict that more than 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Hidden costs and disappointing ROI.<\/strong>The second effect is purely financial. Every AI instance deployed without a genuine operational need creates processing, storage, and maintenance costs that are hard to predict. Unchecked proliferation of applications means scaling unsustainable expenses, which inevitably compound with the costs of managing exceptions the system wasn't designed to handle\u2014ultimately crushing ROI.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> The environmental impact challenge.<\/strong>Finally, the environmental aspect must not be overlooked. Training and running inference on models demand enormous computing power, translating into extremely high energy and water consumption for data centers. These impacts scale up with non-selective usage, standing in sharp contrast to corporate ESG sustainability policies.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Innovaway Methodology: Putting the Use Case at the Center. Stating that AI should be used 'only where needed' doesn't mean slowing down innovation, but making it scalable and sustainable.
